The lot is determined by the producer, manufacturer, packager or the first seller in Malta of the food, and the lot mark is preceded by "L" unless clearly distinguishable (S.L. 449.46 reg. 16); that first seller in Malta is the local party answerable for the pack.
Labelling particulars must appear in at least one of Maltese, English or Italian (S.L. 449.46 reg. 18.1), and the Food Safety Commission may exempt categories or require one of Malta's official languages for specified information; the 'use by' wording is prescribed in all three languages.
No Maltese page on nutrition and health claims could be read; S.L. 449.46 bars labelling that could mislead the purchaser, and claims otherwise follow the EU framework asserted by the brand owner.
